A young woman protester in Myanmar who was shot in the head last week as police tried to disperse a crowd died on Friday, her brother said.

Mya Thwate Thwate Khaing, who just turned 20, had been on life support since being taken to hospital on Feb. 9, after she was hit by what doctors said was a live bullet at a protest in the capital, Naypyitaw. 

"I feel really sad and have nothing to say," added her brother, Ye Htut Aung, speaking by telephone.

She is the only protester to be killed since Myanmar's army seized power on Feb. 1 and detained elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Carmaker Renault posts record $9.7 billion loss for 2020

PARIS (Reuters) – Renault reported a record 8 billion euro ($9.68 billion) loss for 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic hit sales and production at the French carmaker and its Japanese partner Nissan.

Renault was already reeling from a 141 million euro loss in 2019 before the pandemic hit.

Analysts polled by Refinitiv had expected a 7.4 billion euro loss for 2020. ($1 = 0.8269 euros)

French automaker Renault SA (RNSDY.PK,RNSDF.PK,RNT.L) reported Friday that its fiscal 2020 net loss Group share was 8.01 billion euros, compared to last year’s loss of 141 million euros.

Loss per share was 29.51 euros, compared to 0.52 euro per share in 2019.

In the second half, the company recorded net loss of 660 million euros.

Operating loss was 2 billion euros, compared to last year’s profit of 2.11 billion euros. Group operating margin was negative 0.8 percent, compared to positive 4.8 percent a year ago. The margin was positive 3.5 percent of revenues in the second half.

Group revenues fell 21.7 percent to 43.47 billion euros from last year’s 55.54 billion euros. Revenues declined 18.2 percent at constant exchange rates.

Group revenues were down 8.9 percent in the second half.

Full-year vehicle sales were 2.95 million units, down 21.3 percent from last year. The second-half vehicle sales were down 6.8 percent.

The company said the strong improvement in operating profitability in the second half shows the first positive impacts of the actions taken in the context of a year heavily impacted by Covid-19.

Looking ahead, Renault confirmed its 2023 objectives as per “Renaulution” strategic plan, with Group operating margin above 3 percent.

Danone FY Profit Rises; Sees Tough Q1

French food company Danone SA (DANOY.PK) reported that its net income – group share for fiscal year 2020 rose to 1.96 billion euros or 2.99 euros per share from 1.93 billion euros or 2.95 euros per share in the prior year.

But recurring earnings per share declined to 3.34 euros from 3.85 euros in the previous year.

Annual sales were 23.6 billion euros, down 1.5% on a like-for-like basis, with stable volumes (-0.1%) and a -1.5% decrease in value reflecting negative category and country mix, especially in Waters and Specialized Nutrition. On a reported basis, sales were down 6.6%, mainly driven by the negative impact of exchange rates (-5.0%) that resulted from currencies devaluation against the Euro in the United States, Latin America, Indonesia and Russia.

At the Annual General Meeting on April 29, 2021, Danone’s board will propose a dividend of 1.94 euros per share, in cash, in respect of the 2020 fiscal year. the ex-dividend data will be May 10, 2021 and the dividends will be payable on May 12, 2021.

Danone expects a tough first-quarter driven by the tough base of comparison of first-quarter last year and continued channel-related headwinds.

The company anticipates to be back to growth in the second-quarter, and to return to profitable growth in the second-half of year.

The company recurring operating margin for fiscal year 2021 to be broadly in line with 2020.

Swiss Re Group FY20 Net Income, Excl. COVID-19 Claims And Reserves, Rises – Quick Facts

Swiss Re Group (SSREY.PK) posted a Group net loss of $878 million for fiscal year 2020. Excluding COVID-19 claims and reserves of $3.9 billion, Group net income increased to $2.2 billion from $727 million, prior year.

For fiscal 2020, net premiums earned and fee income increased to $40.77 billion from $38.59 billion, previous year.

Swiss Re’s Group CEO Christian Mumenthaler said: “We are confident in the outlook for 2021 with COVID-19 losses mostly behind us.”

The Board of Directors will propose a dividend of 5.90 Swiss francs per share at the Annual General Meeting on 16 April 2021.

Beyoncé’s Foundation Provides Relief To Winter Storm Victims In Texas

Houston, TX native Beyoncé is offering help to Texans impacted by the devastating winter storm Uri that left millions without power.

The singer’s BeyGOOD Foundation, Adidas and Houston disaster relief organization Bread of Life have teamed up to provide assistance to storm victims.

Texas residents affected by the storm can apply for up to $1,000 in aid.

People can also donate to Bread of Life to provide further assistance to those in need.

“We send our prayers to those impacted by the winter storm,” the foundation said on Twitter in announcing the relief effort.
