Amazon again urges SEBI to suspend Future-RIL deal review

K-Pop Stans Hijack GOP Congresswoman’s #ImpeachBidenNow Hashtag

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), whose support of the QAnon conspiracy theory is well documented, attempted to turn #ImpeachBidenNow into a viral hashtag on Thursday night.

By Friday morning, she instead learned the power and passion of K-pop fans.

On Thursday, President Joe Biden’s second day in office, Greene announced that she had filed articles of impeachment against him, accusing him of abusing his power when he was vice president by allowing his son, Hunter, to serve on the board of a Ukrainian energy company, according to The Hill.

To accompany her announcement, she tweeted ”#ImpeachBidenNow.”

Greene probably assumed her hashtag would attract a groundswell of support — and it did, just not in the way she expected.

By Friday morning, there were more than 100,000 tweets using the hashtag, and the vast majority were sent by K-pop fans sharing photos of their favorite artists, rather than anti-Biden messages.

Neither the White House nor Greene’s office immediately responded to HuffPost’s request for comment, but this isn’t the first time K-pop fans have trolled the GOP.

In June, fans of the music genre reportedly helped reduce attendance to then-President Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by reserving masses of tickets that they had no intention of using.

In November, K-pop fans also co-opted the hashtag #MillionMAGAMarch with sweet messages about pancakes.

WME Adds Music Agent Aaron Tannenbaum As Partner

WME said Monday that music agent Aaron Tannenbaum has joined the agency as a partner based in its Nashville office. Tannenbaum, who had been at CAA since 2010, specializes in country artists and has repped singers including Luke Combs, Brantley Gilbert, Michael Ray and Walker Hays among others. No word yet on which clients will make the move with him.

“Aaron has earned a reputation in our business as an agent who has a strong ability to identify talent and takes the long view in building an artist’s career, making him a great fit for us,” Scott Clayton, WME’s Co-Head of Music, said today.

Added Jay Williams, co-head of WME’s Nashville office: “As our Nashville office continues to grow, Aaron represents a significant addition to our team and we look forward to bringing his creativity and strategic approach to our colleagues and clients.”

The hire comes after several moves in June in the agency’s Music division. That’s when Marc Geiger, a partner and WME’s longtime worldwide Head of Music, exited after 17 years, and WME’s Co-Head of Music Sara Newkirk Simon transitioned to a consultant role at WME’s parent Endeavor. In the new structure, Lucy Dickins was elevated to Co-Head alongside Clayton and Kirk Sommer.

In October, WME music agent Brent Smith exited after an internal investigation.

Before CAA, Tannenbaum was at Paradigm.

Moderna Raises COVID-19 Vaccine Manufacturing Target

Moderna Inc. (MRNA) said it raised its lower end of global manufacturing plan for 2021 to 600 million doses of its COVID-19 vaccine from the prior estimation of 500 million doses. It is continuing to invest and add staff to build up to potentially 1 billion doses for 2021.

The company, which received the emergency use authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its vaccine on December 18, said it expects about 100 million doses to be available in the United States by the end of the first quarter of 2021, with 200 million doses total available by the end of the second quarter.

The company reported that about 18 million doses have been supplied to the U.S. Government to date.

Additional vaccine doses have also been supplied to the Canadian government following authorization by Health Canada’s Interim Order on December 23.

Moderna said it has partnered with Lonza Ltd. for production inside and outside the United States. Fill-finish services are provided by Catalent Inc. in the U.S., and by ROVI and Recipharm outside the U.S.

The U.S. Government has agreed to purchase 200 million doses of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine with options for potential purchase of 300 million additional doses. The Canadian Government has agreed to purchase 40 million doses.

Amazon again urges SEBI to suspend Future-RIL deal review

E-com firm also files appeal in HC on tribunal proceedings

Amazon has written to SEBI again, apprising the regulator of the formation of the arbitration tribunal at SIAC while urging it to suspend the review of the ₹24,713-crore Future-RIL deal.

It has also filed an appeal with the division bench of the Delhi High Court against the December 21 order of the single member bench, according to sources. The single-member bench of the Delhi HC had rejected Future Group’s plea to restrain Amazon from writing to regulatory authorities about the SIAC’s (Singapore International Arbitration Centre) arbitral order but gave a go-ahead to the regulators to decide on the deal.

E-mails sent to Amazon and Future did not elicit a response.

In its letter dated January 5, a copy of which was seen by PTI, Amazon informed SEBI the “Singapore International Arbitration Centre has constituted the arbitral tribunal in the arbitration proceedings initiated by Amazon against inter alia FRL, Mr. Kishore Biyani and Mr. Rakesh Biyani.”

Amazon had dragged Future Group to arbitration after an indebted Kishore Biyani group firm signed a pact to sell retail, wholesale, logistics and warehousing units to Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance last year in a ₹24,713-crore deal.

Amazon’s argument is Future violated the contract by entering into the deal with rival Reliance.

In 2019, Amazon had agreed to purchase 49% stake in Future’s unlisted firm — Future Coupons Ltd. — with the right to buy into FRL after a period of three to ten years.
