The riding will have a new representative after the provincial election because Transportation Minister and government house leader Brian Mason is not seeking re-election. Janis Irwin will look to regain the seat back for the NDP.

History

Mason held the seat since the northeast riding was created in 2004. He also held the previous riding of Edmonton-Highlands after winning a byelection in 2000.
