United Airlines to offer twice daily flights to London, service to Munich from Denver this spring

United Airlines will not only revive its direct service between the two cities but will start flying between Denver and London twice a day in March, the carrier announced Thursday.

With the addition of a direct flight to Munich that same month, United will be the first airline in Denver International Airport history to offer four daily flights to European cities, airport officials said in a news release.

The London flights will begin on March 26.

“Increased connectivity to London adds significant depth to United’s network at DEN,” airport CEO Phil Washington said in a news release, using the airport’s federal code. “Local and connecting passengers alike will benefit from another option for transatlantic travel through the ever-expanding DEN gateway.”

United launched seasonal nonstop flights between Denver and London’s Heathrow Airport in March 2018. At the time, British Airways and Norwegian Air Shuttle also offered nonstop service between the two cities. Norwegian shut down all transatlantic flights earlier this year.

United began offering daily Denver-London flights year round in 2019 but that was suspended in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The last time United flew between Denver and Heathrow Airport was March 15, 2020, airline officials said.

The return of that service could be integral to the airline’s rebound from the damage done by the global health crisis. San Francisco, Boston and Newark, N.J., are also getting new flights to London in the spring to respond to spiking business travel demand to the city being seen this fall, according to a news release from the airline.

“London is an integral part of United’s network and we remain confident demand will continue to grow, particularly as international business travel returns in 2022,” United executive Patrick Quayle said in a statement.

United also flies direct between Denver and Frankfurt. The new Munich flight was announced earlier this month and will also start in the spring.
