TUI issues pledge to customers who booked Thomas Cook flights

The boss of travel operator TUI has said his firm will take action to help get people booked on Thomas Cook flights home.

Speaking to investors this morning, TUI chief executive Friedrich Joussen said: "On Monday 23 September 2019, our competitor Thomas Cook UK and associated UK entities entered into compulsory liquidation.

"TUI is preparing measures to support.

"Where TUI customers are booked on Thomas Cook Airlines flights and these are no longer operated, replacement flights will be offered."

He added that the firm didn't yet know what effect the fall of Thomas Cook would have on the business.

"We are currently assessing the short term impact of Thomas Cook's insolvency under the current circumstances, on the final week of our FY19 financial result," Joussen said

The firm has reassured passengers that the majority of flights and holidays will continue as normal – while FTSE data shows its shares actually rose on Monday morning.

However, it said that a number of package holidays and flights with Thomas Cook have been cancelled due to an in branch affiliation it had with the firm.

"We really feel for everyone affected by the collapse of Thomas Cook," a TUI spokesman told Mirror Money.

"We offer a small selection of TUI holidays featuring Thomas Cook flights, as well as a small number of Thomas Cook holidays through our stores.

"We are now working alongside the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to assist affected customers and help them to find alternative holidays or organise cancellations and full refunds."
