Ireland’s supply of McDonald’s fries faces disruption on foot of Brexit, with the company seeking to put in place contingency plans to safeguard supply.

The fries come from McCain in the UK, meaning they could face delays arriving here if trade barriers emerge.

McDonald’s UK and Ireland told the Irish Independent it has “developed a robust contingency plan, taking into account all scenarios to look to ensure that there is minimal disruption to our supply chain following Brexit”.

“We continue to work closely with our supply chain partners to prepare accordingly,” the company said. It did not disclose details of its contingency plan, saying these were commercially sensitive.

Amir Afsar, who owns the McDonald’s on Grafton Street as well as 10 other McDonald’s outlets in the Dublin region, said he was 100pc confident supplies would not be interrupted whether there was a deal or no deal.

He was speaking as he opened the renovated Grafton Street branch – Ireland’s busiest. The renovation increases its capacity to 305 seats with plans to add 30 jobs.

The branch is one of the latest to have new digital ordering screens, on which customers can order food and have it delivered to their table.
