Martin Lewis’ three key questions to make sure you ace Black Friday

Bargain-loving Brits are planing to spend an average of £182 each this Black Friday , figures from ProtectYourBubble show.

In fact, one person in three is planning to splurge more than £300 as discounts go live.

But before you do, MoneySavingExpert.com founder Martin Lewis has a bit of advice.

As part of his Black Friday tips , Martin reminded people of the essential rules of shopping.

Martin's " Money Mantras " apply to more than just sales shopping but they're especially relevant this weekend.

Before buying, he tells people to make sure you ask yourself:

  • Do I need it?
  • Is it worth it?
  • Have I checked whether it's cheaper elsewhere?

Martin's mantras also change slightly depending on how skint you are.

He advises people with spare money ask themselves "Will I use it?" before buying, while those struggling ask the more fundamental "Can I afford it?".

"If you're already shopping around for an item, now is the time to start bargain hunting," Martin Lewis explained on Tuesday night's live ITV Money Show.

"If you see a deal on it then buy it, but if you weren't looking for it already, don't fall for it," he said.

He added: "Remember, only ever buy what you need and can afford."
