THE community of Castlemaine has rallied around the grief-stricken family of 13-year-old Ryan Nagle following his tragic death on Monday after a quad-bike accident last week.

His death has rocked the close-knit community of Castlemaine, where Ryan and his family are well-known and well-liked.

Ryan was the son of Brian and Irene Nagle, from the Ballygamboon area of Castlemaine.

Tributes have been pouring in for the teen, who was described as a wonderful young boy who had ‘touched many hearts’ in the local community.

Friends and family described him as a character who achieved a huge amount in his tragically short life.

The principal of Killorglin Community College Donal O’Reilly led tributes on Tuesday to the first-year student.

Ryan was formerly a pupil of Firies National School and had almost completed his first year at Killorglin Community College.

“This is a terrible tragedy for his family, our school and our community. We are deeply saddened at these events, and our thoughts and sympathies are with the Nagle family and friends at this time,” Mr O’Reilly said.

Ryan had been in the community’s thoughts and prayers over the past week as he battled for his life in Dublin following the accident over a week ago. The devastating news that he had died filtered through on Tuesday morning.

He was one of four children. His older brother, Jack, and sister, Chloe, also attend the Community College.

He also has a younger brother, Gearóid. 

The school moved to implement its critical-incident management plan, involving psychologists from the National Educational Psychologists Service (NEPS), South West Counselling, and Killorglin Neighbour Youth Project,  who are on hand to help the students face the terrible tragedy.

Mr O’Reilly said the community has rallied around the family and school at this most distressing time for everyone who knew Ryan.
