Lifers: Owner reveals history behind Philadelphia's famous Bassett's Ice Cream
Bassetts Ice Cream, a 150-year-old family-run business, has spanned five generations and etched itself into Philadelphia's history as the premier ice cream shop.
In the second season's second episode of the AOL original series Lifers, current Owner Michael Strange's great-great-grandfather Lewis Dubois started began making ice cream in Salem, New Jersey in 1861.
Bassetts was the first business to sign a lease in Philadelphia's famous Reading Terminal Market, and today, the ice cream stand is the only remaining original tenant.
Managing Partner Roger Bassett has been working for the family business for 46 years — since he was 11-years-old.
Two sixth-generation Bassett family members are beginning their careers and have no plans on leaving.
