Greggs reveals date for vegan sausage roll launch – and it’s very soon

If you’re trying Veganuary this year but don’t want to miss out on Greggs, then you’re in luck.

The high-street bakery has now confirmed it’s launching it’s vegan-friendly sausage role TOMORROW (January 3) – so fans can get their hands on one very soon.

The Quorn-stuffed puff pastry will be available in 950 of Greggs’ 1,900 stores across the UK. It will be priced at a bargain £1.

Roger Whiteside, chief executive at Greggs, said: "Like many food retailers we have seen increasing demand for vegetarian and vegan products. We have been trying to develop a vegan version of our famous sausage roll for some time now.

"It has not been easy but our taste panel customers all love this one, so we have decided to launch it as our contribution to Veganuary."

The launch follows demands from consumers for a vegan offering, plus a petition by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) which was signed by 20,000 people.

News of the vegan sausage roll was revealed via a leaked email to PETA earlier this month.

The note is reported to have read: "We’re really excited about the launch of the Vegan Sausage Roll as we know you and our customers will be too."

Fans were delighted by the news, and took to social media to express their excitement about the launch.

One wrote that the launch would be "the best thing that ever happened", while another said they’re looking forward to this "bright future".

The company has previously been open to the idea of expanding their vegan menu, adding a savoury Mexican Bean vegan wrap to their offerings back in May.

This Mexican Bean wrap then went on to be crowned the Best Vegan Sandwich at the PETA Food Awards 2018.
