Easter egg made entirely from cheese hits Asda – for cheaper than Sainsbury’s
Easter and all its sweet-toothed treats might be heaven for chocoholics, but now someone has finally created the dream Easter egg for those of us more partial to crisps, bread or a good lump of cheese.
A savoury masterpiece, the strange looking cream-coloured egg is made from 100% Lancashire-farmed cheddar cheese, with a soft, creamy texture that's perfect for spreading.
Only setting you back £4 a pop, the egg will be available to buy from the 29th March at Asda stores all over the country, as well as online on the supermarket's website.
Think you recognise it? Last week Sainsbury's announced that it will also be selling the Cheester egg, albeit for the slightly pricier £5, and with theirs not hitting stores until the 10th April.
A solid, spherical egg made of cheddar cheese, the showstopping egg centrepiece comes in a box alongside mini oatcakes and a sticky, sweet chutney perfect that's for adding pizazz to any cheese board, for those that don't fancy biting straight into it (although who are we to judge if you do?).
An Asda spokesperson comments: “Last year, our customers’ dreams came true with our blue cheese egg, which sold-out everywhere within days. This year, we’re excited to be introducing our most eggstraordinary Cheester Egg yet, made from cheddar cheese.
“Whilst cheddar is traditionally a harder cheese, our Cheester Egg is created with spreading the joy in mind, perfect for smearing over biscuits, ideal for anyone who prefers savoury over sweet.”
