Child benefit and tax credit payment dates over Easter bank holidays revealed

Millions of mums and dads in receipt of child benefits and tax credits have been warned their payment dates will change over Easter as a result of the two bank holidays.

HMRC – which manages the payments – has now revealed the key dates for your diary over the spring holidays.

But for once it's not bad news, with most families getting their money earlier than usual – on the Thursday rather than Easter Friday.

Child Benefit pays £20.70 a week for the first child and £13.70 a week for subsequent children to qualifying parents.

However, if you or your partner have an income of more than £50,000 a year, you will be liable for the  High Income Child Benefit charge . This means you'll have to pay 1% of every £100 you earn back to the Government at the end of the tax year.

Child Benefit payment dates

  • Due: Monday 22 April 2019 – Paid: Thursday 18 April

Tax credit payment dates also changing

Tax-credits work as separate system, and are benefit is paid to families who need it most, such as those who need help to care for children, are disabled or have and low incomes.

There are two types of tax credit –  child tax credit  and  working tax credit . You might be eligible for one or both of them, depending on your circumstances.

We've run through the full changes below:

What about Universal Credit payments?

Universal Credit is a single payment that's generally paid monthly, directly into an account in your name – for example a bank, building society or credit union account.

The date varies person-to-person, based on when your assessment period ends and when you are paid by your job for people claiming in-work benefits.

The DWP told Mirror Money that if your normal payment dates are set to fall on one of the bank holidays, this is how they're changing:

  • Due: Friday 19 April 2019 – Paid: Thursday 18 April
  • Due: Monday 22 April 2019 – Paid: Thursday 18 April
