Career Zoo: Ireland's south east entices tech employers with living costs and quality of life
The south east of the country is becoming a hot-spot for the technology industry as low living costs and a higher quality of life entice top tech employers, experts have said.
According to Career Zoo Director, Brian Ó hOisín, and a report published by the Ireland South East Development Office, the region is increasingly becoming one of Ireland’s most sought-after destinations to live and work.
According to the report, the region offers a 67pc lower cost of living compared to Dublin with an average three-bed home costing around €200,000. Residents in South East, it says, enjoy more than 40pc more disposable income.
According to the CSO, the region also boasts the lowest childcare costs in Ireland and 89pc of people who have moved to the area are reported to be satisfied or very satisfied with their improved quality of life.
Over 25 major tech and biotech firms will take part in the Career Zoo South X South East event at The Theatre Royal Waterford on Saturday, 20 July.
More than 1,500 people are expected to attend the tech and life sciences recruiting event and conference, which will show what the region has to offer on the technology job front.
Mr Ó hOisín said that it’s the perfect time to consider moving to the region to work.
“There’s a huge tech ecosystem in the south east with national and multinational corporations offering great take home pay and opportunities for career advancement and upskilling,” he said.
“It’s a bit of a hidden gem, so we’re thrilled to showcase the buzzing tech industry in south east.
“With the cost of living significantly cheaper in all areas from house prices to childcare, it’s the perfect time to seek out work in the South East for a better cost of living and work life balance.”
In the last six months, €500m has been invested in companies in the region. Top tech employers like the Agora Companies, Sun Life, Taxback Group and Vhi say the South East region offers a wide range of jobs across the tech industry.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet employers like these face-to-face and find out about re-locating. There will also be more than 30 speakers present on the day.
