Average weekly earnings grow 4pc in 2018

Average weekly earnings grew by 4.1pc in 2018 to €761.65, according to data from the Central Statistics Office.

The highest average earnings were found in the IT and communications sector, where workers earned an average of €1,175.46 per week.

This was followed by the financial, insurance, and real estate activities sector at €1,084.89.

The lowest average weekly earnings were €360.73 in the accommodation and food service activities sector, and €493.12 in the arts, entertainment, recreation and other service activities sector.

Average weekly earnings increased in all 13 sectors of the economy in 2018.

The largest percentage increase was 10.5pc in the administrative and support services sector, where average weekly earnings rose from €547.52 to €605.01 in the year to quarter four 2018.

The second largest increase was 9.1pc in the transportation and storage sector, which rose from €781.47 a week to €852.79 over the year.

In the public sector, including semi-state, average earnings increase 2.3pc from €944.64 to €966.40 in the year to quarter four 2018.

There was also an increase in average weekly earnings in the private sector of 4.4pc, from €672.47 to €702.24 over the same period.
