Critics slam 'disneyfication' of Mahatma Gandhi's ashram
NEW DELHI – A plan to revamp Sabarmati Ashram, where India’s independence hero Mahatma Gandhi once lived, has stirred controversy, with opponents denouncing it as an attempt at “disneyfication” of the revered site.
Gandhi set up the Sabarmati Ashram in the state of Gujarat – the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi – after he returned from South Africa in 1915, and lived in it for 13 years with his wife, Kasturba.
