Australia rebuts UN's Great Barrier Reef 'in danger' proposal, privately blaming China

SYDNEY – Australia has launched an international lobbying campaign against a United Nations proposal to downgrade the heritage status of the Great Barrier Reef, privately accusing China of orchestrating the move.

Environment Minister Sussan Ley was due to fly to Europe on Saturday (July 10) to meet delegates of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) to urge them not to downgrade the reef’s status to “in danger”.
