Re “A More Perfect Civics Lesson? ‘Democracy’ Itself Is Up for Debate” (front page, April 8):
In 30 years of teaching high school social studies — primarily American government, civics and history classes — I have learned that students can grapple with difficult ideas. In fact, they want to!
Our country’s history is complicated. Let them learn it warts and all. Such an education will make an engaged and informed citizenry.
