Re “Times Demotes an Editor Over Tweets About Race and Politics” (news article, Aug. 14):
The Times has buried the lead once again. The social media offenses of Jonathan Weisman pale in comparison to the tepid approach that The Times has taken to describe the regressive, racist presidential tweets and policies traumatizing our nation day in and day out. If now is not the time to call out our president and his minions for stirring the racial fires that are destroying our democracy, then when?
The Times has a responsibility as the nation’s paper of record to clearly and with precision report what is actually happening. A sunset is a sunset. It isn’t something other than that. Racism can go by no other name.
As the Times reportage makes clear, our democracy’s continued existence is jeopardized by the endless pathologies of this administration and can be defended only with unequivocal language.
