Harrowing body-cam footage shows cops catching 3 children thrown from burning building
03/21/2019
Incredible footage shows quick-thinking police officers in Iowa catching three children who were tossed from a third-storey window to escape a burning building.
Des Moines police officers were first on the scene of a burning residential building early Tuesday morning. The police force said heavy smoke in the building prevented officers from reaching the third floor, so they improvised.
“Ma’am, get all your kids by the window,” the officer said in the video. “Get them by the window!”
You can hear the sound of glass smashing and the arrival of fire trucks as the officer gets into position.
“Send them down, I got them,” the officer tells the woman. “Yep, drop ‘em, drop ‘em!”
And one by one, the mother drops her children as the officer catches them, placing the kids safely on the ground.
“I got ‘em I got ‘em. Keep going. Go!” the cop said.
The officer then tells the woman to “stay on the edge if you can” while screaming to responding firefighters for a ladder.
The police department praised the officers’ quick thinking on social media, thanking them for their actions.
Senior police officers Cole Johnson, Craig Vasquez, Tyler Kelley, and Casey Sanders quickly positioned themselves outside the building, and caught children that were dropped to them from a 3rd floor window,” the department said. “All are well.”
Local media reported firefighters were able to contain the blaze to two apartments on the third floor. All residents managed to evacuate the building without injury.
