Woman who helped deliver best friend's baby finds her husband is the father

A woman who helped deliver her best friend’s baby discovered days later that her husband was the father of the child.

Hailey Custer, 28, had been there ‘every step of the way’ to support her best friend during her pregnancy, and was heartbroken when she noticed a birth defect on the baby’s neck identical to one her husband has.

Custer wore the hospital’s ‘daddy wrist band’ when the unnamed friend gave the baby her first bath before realizing her friend’s baby girl had the same extra piece of cartilage on her neck.

After confronting the friend and her husband, Travis Bowling, 36, her suspicions were confirmed. Custer now claims he cheated on her with up to 30 women during their six years of marriage.

The 28-year-old from Wickenburg, Arizona shared her story on TikTok, where she quickly went viral, amassing over 3.4million views.

Even after the infidelity, Custer welcomed the friend into her home because she had ‘nowhere to go’.

‘I kept thinking of my kids, at the end of the day that is their blood sibling and I’m not going to be the one who causes harm to that child,’ she explained.

Custer, who is a recovering drug addict, wanted to help her friend who also struggles with drug addiction.

‘I had been forced to sober up because I found out I was pregnant,’ Custer said. ‘When I found out my friend was using and she found out she was pregnant, I wanted to do what was right and make sure she was safe and taken care of.’

Custer shared her story with Caters News, saying she noticed her friend and husband getting close, but didn’t think anything of it.

‘We are all charismatic people, so we all had that nature to be charismatic around each other and make jokes. I didn’t see anything there,’ she said. ‘I was very naïve so I just didn’t think it would be possible for someone to do that.’

But a few days after they got home from the hospital, she noticed the hereditary defect on the baby’s neck.

‘I’m very familiar with (the hereditary defect) because my older son has it – it’s an extra piece of cartilage that grows out of the side of his neck,’ she explained.

‘I was changing her daughter and I noticed that she had what we call the Bowling bumps, and several of his other children have it as well, so I knew exactly that that baby was my husbands.’

In that moment she felt ‘shock come over her’, she told Carters.

She added, ‘When I found out my friend was standing next to me, I looked at her and you could just tell. She couldn’t say anything, she just dropped her head and looked to the floor, and I just knew.’

For Custer, it was more important than anything else to look at the bigger picture of the situation.

‘Now we have this innocent child who had no say in this whole situation, you have someone who doesn’t have anywhere to go, who has no family, we’re not going to kick them to the streets,’ she said.

While the friend stayed with Custer and her children, the two providing child care for each other, the father was never around. When he was, according to Custer, he was physically abusive.

‘We basically played house together while he was out doing whatever he wanted to do,’ Custer said.

Despite it all, Custer held no hatred toward her husband or friend in her heart, telling TikTok, ‘Everything happens for a reason and I’m still friends with her today. I still love her, I forgive her I just hope she can forgive herself. Everyone makes mistakes.

‘There is no hate in my heart for either party. My ex-husband and me have three children together so I have to co-parent with him. And at the end of the day, my now ex-best friend’s daughter is my children’s sister. So I don’t hold any hate in my heart.

‘It’s got 3.4million views now and has just blown up. It’s huge for everyone to know that I found forgiveness for myself. I’ve had to find forgiveness for myself and for the children.’

She concluded: ‘That’s the main point, you can walk through anything in life, and you can find forgiveness it just heals you from the inside out.’

Custer is now happily remarried.
