In case you didn't already know, binge-watching Netflix while at work is probably not a good idea and is heavily frowned upon – unless you work for Netflix then you might be able to get away with it.

But one woman recently found this out the hard way, after she was hit with a $6,000,000 (£4,928,940) lawsuit by Canal Productions, Robert De Niro’s production company.

According to Variety, Chase Robinson, the former vice president of production and finance at Canal Productions, has been accused of "embezzling money and binge-watching Netflix while on the job".

Robinson left her position in April, but the company alleges that before leaving she spent "astronomical amounts of time" bingeing comedy shows during work hours – including watching a number of episodes of the sitcom Friends.

The lawsuit states: "Over the four-day period between Tuesday, January 8 and Friday, January 11, 2019, 55 episodes of Friends were accessed."

It has also been claimed that a similar incident occurred a few months later in March, when she allegedly spent another four days watching "20 episodes of Arrested Development and 10 episodes of Schitt's Creek".

As well as watching TV on the job, De Niro's company also alleges in the lawsuit that the employee rarely came into the office and racked up thousands of dollars of unauthorised charges on the company card for food orders, Uber journeys and taxis.

The suit adds: "Watching shows on Netflix was not in any way part of or related to the duties and responsibilities of Robinson’s employment and, on information and belief, was done for her personal entertainment, amusement and pleasure at times when she was being paid to work."

In her resignation email, Robinson is reported to have brushed off these claims as "ridiculous".

Despite this, she is yet to publicly comment on the lawsuit.
