Washington supermarket shooting: One dead at Fred Meyer with gunman on the run

A gunman is on the loose after allegedly shooting and killing at least one person at a supermarket in southeast Washington on Monday.

The Kennewick Police Department released images of a man in a checkered shirt and dark vest who allegedly shot at least two people at a Fred Meyer market in Richland. The man had a white pickup truck.

‘The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous,’ Richland police stated.

Richland police posted a notice on social media at 11.17am PT warning residents in the area to ‘avoid the Richland Fort Meyers on Wellsian Way’.

Around 12.30pm, Richland police Commander Chris Lee told reporters that the suspect had a handgun.

‘We’re not sure if he’s on foot or in a vehicle but he’s still at large,’ Lee said. ‘We don’t know what the cause was. We don’t know if it was specifically intentional or targeted toward any one person.’

The supermarket is 220 miles east of downtown Portland and just over two miles west of the Columbia River.
