WASHINGTON – The United States convenes a sprawling, virtual two-day Summit for Democracy on Thursday (Dec 9) amid a new frost in United States-China relations – not helped by the fact that Taiwan is one of the 110 governments invited.

The summit comes at a time when democracy is not only losing ground but may be losing its appeal too.
