US mall gunman may be able to return to work as 3 die in 4 weekend shootings

At least four major shootings rocked the US over the Easter weekend, including two in South Carolina, one in Portland and another in Pittsburgh that left over 30 people injured.

Two separate shootings in South Carolina have left residents shaken, with the suspected perpetrator of the first already out of jail on bail.

Jewayne Price, 22, was arrested Sunday and charged with unlawfully carrying a pistol in connection to a Saturday shooting at a shopping mall that left nine people with gunshot wounds and at least five others injured.

Police said on Twitter that a judge agreed to let Price leave jail on a $25,000 surety bond. He is currently on house arrest with an ankle monitor and may be allowed to go back to work. Authorities have not shared where he is employed.

While police have not formally named Price as the shooter, they have said that they believe there were at least three shooters involved and that the incident likely stemmed from an ‘ongoing conflict.’

Price’s attorney, Todd Rutherford, told news outlets Sunday that his client fired a gun at the mall, but was acting in self-defense. He said Price faces a charge of unlawfully carrying a pistol because he legally owned his gun but did not have a permit to carry a weapon.

Just a day later, gunfire broke out at Cara’s Lounge, a nightclub in Hampton County, about 90 miles south of the mall shooting. At least nine people were injured in the shooting, state law enforcement officials said.

Two other mass shootings took place over the holiday weekend, including one in Pennsylvania and one in Oregon.

Police in Pittsburgh responded to an Airbnb shortly after midnight Sunday to reports of gunfire, and found at least 10 people injured from the incident. Two of the victims, Jaiden Brown and Matthew Steffy-Ross, both 17-years-old, were pronounced dead at the hospital following the shooting.

As many as 200 party-goers, many underage, were attending the gathering at the Airbnb when as many as 50 rounds went off, police said.

Investigators believe there were multiple shooters, and police were processing evidence at as many as eight separate crime scenes spanning a few blocks around the rental home.

Another shooting on Sunday in Portland, Oregon, left one person dead and three minors injured, according to police.

Police were called to reports of a shooting just after 8.40pm Sunday night, and arrived to find one man dead and three boys with gunshot wounds.

All three boys were taken to an area hospitals, with one sustaining life-threatening injuries, according to police.
