US Capitol rioter plans to 'work out a lot, do a lot of yoga and detox' in jail

Doing yoga, drinking protein shakes and dropping weight is how one woman caught storming the US Capitol on January 6 plans to spend her time in prison.

Jenna Ryan said in a TikTok video, that the 60 days she will spend behind bars next year ‘will be so worth it’ if she can lose 30 pounds (13.6kg) while there.

The 50-year-old who was sentenced in November received one of the harshest penalties imposed on the hundreds of riot participants receiving punishment for their actions. She had pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge for parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.

US District Judge Christopher Cooper told her then: ‘For better or worse, you’ve become one of the faces of January 6.’

Ryan made national headlines for being flown out to Washington DC to attend former president Donald Trump’s rally on a date, and documented her entire trip on social media. Later, she famously tweeted: ‘Definitely not going to jail. Sorry I have blonde hair white skin a great job a great future and I’m not going to jail.’

Judge Cooper cited this apparent lack of remorse for her participation in the deadly riot during her sentencing, where he also noted that she knew it was not a peaceful protest because she had seen footage of the riot on her hotel television.

Ryan later noted in a letter to the court that she does not feel ‘immune to punishment due to my appearance and social status.’

Standing in front of a mirror donning work out attire on Sunday, Ryan told shared with her TikTok audience that she must report to prison during the first week of January.

‘The only thing that I can see that’s good about having to go to prison is that I’m going to be able to work out a lot and do a lot of yoga and detox,’ she said.

Ryan dished her ultimate fitness goal — shedding 30 pounds (13.6kg) — over the course of her two month imprisonment. She added that she probably won’t be eating much because ‘the food is awful, and there’s no food.’

The Texas woman said she hoped they would have protein shakes or protein bars at the very least, adding that she didn’t want to eat the ‘green baloney’ prisons serve.

‘If I can do that then it will be worth going to prison for 60 days. If I can lose thirty pounds it will be so worth it,’ she said.

Despite her hopes to reach her ‘goal weight’ while in prison, Ryan acknowledged in a later video that she doesn’t think it will be easy.

‘I have a beautiful life on the other side of this, it’s just that I have to go through hell first,’ she said Tuesday.

Ryan noted that she is a ‘very positive person’ who ‘tries to look at the bright side of everything,’ which is why she shared her plans to work out.

Other plans of hers for January include reading, reading the Bible, and working on herself.

‘That’s what I plan to do: Read books, work out, become a better person,’ she said. ‘Really work on myself and make the best of a horrible, horrible situation.’
