US ambulance system on the verge of collapse

About 46 million rural Americans rely on volunteer ambulance services in which emergency medical technicians work for free.

    In much of the US, there is no national system for ambulance services.

    In most rural areas, while police and firefighters are generally paid, emergency medical technicians are volunteers.
