Two dads have been arrested for attempted murder after they allegedly shot one another’s daughters in a road rage row.
Frank Allison, 43, and William Hale, 35, got involved in a ‘cat and mouse’ chase while driving near Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday.
While brake-checking one another and driving erratically, Allison’s daughter wound down the window and made offensive gestures at Hale’s black Dodge Ram.
A bottle of water was thrown back at their Nissan Murano in retaliation before the gun fight began.
Allison said he thought he had hit the other car’s tyres, when in fact he had shot Hale’s five-year-old daughter in the leg.
Hale – who had five passengers in his car – returned fire, hitting Allison’s daughter Shelby, 14, in the back, puncturing her lung.
They continued driving north on Highway 1, near Callahan, with their injured daughters until they stopped when they saw a patrol car.
In footage taken at the scene Allison can be heard shouting ‘that’s what you get’.
They continued arguing and started fighting, which the sheriff’s deputy had to break up.
Police revealed that they received calls from people inside both cars.
One of the mothers can be heard telling a 911 operator ‘my daughter’s been shot – please help me.’
In the background the girl can be heard crying and saying ‘I don’t want to die’.
Sheriff Bill Leeper said: ‘What is scarier than one crazy driver with a gun? Two crazy drivers with a gun,’ Leeper said on Monday.
‘But it could have been very easily turned out that way because two people were acting stupid and let their tempers get the best of them. There could have been two dead kids because of two stupid grown men.’
The girls were taken to hospital and are expected to survive.
The dads were taken into custody before being released on bail.
