Son tied up his adoptive mother, 80, then robbed her

A man armed with a hammer broke into his adopted mother’s house, tied her to a chair and robbed her, police have said.

Christopher Dougherty, 45, has been accused of robbing his mother of more than $1,000 after tying her up with duct tape.

Pennsylvania State Police have said they want the public’s help in locating Dougherty, who stormed his 80-year-old mother’s house in Delaware County on Thursday.

Officers say that at around 6.30pm on February 11, Dougherty was armed with a hammer when he broke into the victim’s home in the Middletown Township.

They said then he bound her to a chair with duct tape and stole $1,150 in cash, her cellphone and her 2002 Buick Century, reports ABC 6.

The vehicle has a Pennsylvania license plate number HYM-3785 and Police believe Dougherty is the adopted son of the victim.

Dougherty may have ties to Aston, Chester, Havertown, and Upper Darby in Pennsylvania; and Elkton and Rising Sun in Maryland, police added.
