Single winner of $1.5billion jackpot was ‘motionless’ when she found out

The winner of an incredible $1.5billion jackpot has finally come forward to claim her prize – and spoken of the moment she realised her life had changed forever.

Last October, the record breaking Mega Millions jackpot captivated the US and millions held their breath as the numbers were announced.

The lucky woman from South Carolina – who has chosen to remain anonymous – has told of her shock and disbelief at winning.

She says she stared motionless at her ticket for what felt like hours, then began jumping and screaming with joy.

"Words can’t describe the feeling of such incredible luck," the winner said.

"I do realise that such good fortune carries a tremendous social responsibility, and it gives me a unique opportunity to assist, support and contribute to charities and causes that are close to my heart."

The woman had been visiting Greenville and decided to go on a scenic drive.

As fate would have it, her drive took her past signs showing the incredibly large jackpot, which caught her eye.

She decided to take a chance and buy a ticket, never once thinking she had the slightest chance of winning.

But as she checked her ticket the morning after the draw, she was in complete disbelief.

And after celebrating, the winner spent time researching experienced professionals to help preserve her anonymity and manage her newfound wealth.

"I hired a team with experience handling large jackpot winners," she told.

"I want to make sure I make all of the right decisions, which is why I have taken this amount of time to collect my prize.”

The winner plans to make donations to the Ronald McDonald House of Charities of Columbia in South Carolina and One SC Fund – for Hurricane Florence Relief.

She will also give to the following charities: In The Middle, Columbia, the City of Simpsonville Art Center and the American Red Cross Alabama Region ‐ Tornado Relief Fund.

The winner said she is thankful that South Carolina allows lottery winners to claim their prize anonymously and hopes that her wish to
remain secret is respected so that she can live a relatively ‘normal’ life, free of fear.
