People who normally buy hunting, angling or trapping licences at one of 19 Ministry of Environment field offices across Saskatchewan will have to look elsewhere starting this spring.

The Ministry said Thursday it is closing walk-in service at those offices starting April 1, with the final one closing on Oct. 1.

Front counter service will be discontinued at most offices on May 14.

The change will impact three full-time and 16 part-time staff. Conservation officers will continue to work at the affected field offices.

Officials said 10 of the offices being closed are currently open only two days a week.

People are being encouraged to use electronic self-serve options, private vendors, or one of the remaining 13 locations in the province with front counter service to purchase licences.

Officials said the 19 impacted offices accounted for roughly two per cent of all provincial licence sales in 2018.
