Rail worker pulls drunk man from track seconds before he’s hit by train
A station worker has been hailed a hero after he saved a drunk man from being hit by a train.
Supervisor John O'Connor was on duty at the Coliseum Station in the city of San Francisco, California, when the passenger mis-stepped and fell on to the track.
CCTV capture the moment John springing into action, grabbing the man by the shoulder before yanking him back to the platform as the train enters the station.
The platform was packed with people following a NFL football game on Sunday.
Another video shows John and the man embracing each other while others cheered for John's bravery and quick action, according to CBS San Francisco .
John, who works for Bay Area Transit (BART), spoke at a press conference on Monday: "It seems a lot slower than it actually happened (on video).
"He came to the side, I figured he wasn't going to make it so I grabbed him and pulled him up to the platform.
"That's what we do. We got foreworkers, train operators, station agents who deal with this on a daily basis.
"We preach safety, and we practice it."
He also responded when people called him a hero.
"There really was no time to make a decision. I just looked and it just happened.
"It's really awkward to be called a hero.
"That's what we're supposed to do. We're all human beings and life is precious."
BART officials said the man who fell onto the tracks was intoxicated and taken to hospital for a follow-up checkup.
John was greeted by commuters on Monday afternoon as they shook hands to thank for his rescue.
Oakland resident Sheila Hale said: "That means a lot, 'cause there aren't too many people who would do that."
