A pilot who thought he was going to die was filmed crash landing his small plane and skidding on to a driveway.
Solo flier Remy Colin walked away with only minor injuries after the dramatic smash in Orlando, Florida – but may lose his licence after running out of fuel.
Amanda Skuban, who filmed the accident on her way to a shopping trip, said she ‘just kind of freaked’.
In the video – captured on a suburban road with cars on as the aircraft disconcertingly comes in to land – she can be heard saying ‘oh my god… holy f**k!’.
The plane, reportedly a Cessna 180, then lands on the main road and swerves on to a driveway before coming to a halt.
Mr Colin told Inside Edition: ‘It was pilot error. Just trying to do too much, rushing, a big mistake.
‘I have more than 10,000 hours, and I’ve never run out of fuel, so I’m embarrassed.’
He added: ‘I said, “Mayday, mayday, I’m going down.”
‘I said, “I’m probably going to die,” so the best solution there was to let the plane stall.
‘It slowed my fall enough that I didn’t die, and I was able to bounce to put in the trees and not hurt anyone else’.
Another bystander said they thought there had been a car crash until they looked over their fence and saw a plane.
According to LinkedIn, Mr Colin runs a firm called Aerial Messages which offers advertising such as banners, billboards and sky writing.
The pilot said he had been distracted while trying to fix a broken radio and lost power after running out of fuel.
He aimed for the street to avoid hurting anyone.
The Federal Aviation Authority and the National Transportation Safety Board are now investigating the investigating the incident.
