Parolee arrested over bowling alley shooting
Reginald Wallace, 47, is accused of shooting into a crowd during a fight at the bowling alley in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles residents Robert Earl Meekins Jr, 28, Astin Kyle Edwards, 28, and Michael Di’Shawn Radford, 20, died and four other were injured.
Police said on Monday that Wallace was a parolee, having been released in 2017 from a 17-year prison sentence for assault with a deadly weapon.
On Friday night two people had been fighting at the bowling alley and others joined in until there were about 20 people involved.
Wallace is alleged to have pulled out a handgun and opened fire.
Torrance Police chief Eve Irvine said it was unclear whether he knew the victims, adding: “I do know that he was shooting into a crowd.
“And there was a lot going on – it was complete chaos at this time.
“People were running all over, there were fights still occurring and when he pulled out the handgun, the minute people started hearing shots, even more chaos erupted.”
Wallace is being held in police custody.
Meanwhile, friends and relatives of those killed held a candlelight vigil in the bowling alley’s carpark.
Relatives told US media that those killed had been trying to stop the fighting.
Astin Edwards’s father Dwayne said: “He was a good kid, I just don’t understand it.”
Anglean Hubbard told KABC-TV that her son, Robert Meekins, had been Mr Edwards’s friend.
She added: “I know he probably jumped in and helped Astin and whoever he was with… but I don’t think my son deserves to die.”
Mr Radford’s sister Latrice Dumas described him as “happy” and “always the protector”, telling the Torrance Daily Breeze newspaper: “He was trying to protect others.”
