Outrage as killjoy teacher tells class of six-year-olds Santa isn’t real

A teacher has been slammed for "ruining Christmas" for a class of six-year-olds – by telling them Santa isn’t real.

The supply teacher also dismissed a number of other festive traditions, including Easter, on Friday.

The excited youngsters at Cedar Hill School in Montville, New Jersey, were talking about Christmas when the teacher confessed the truth.

She also said: "Parents put your presents under three," WKRG reports.

But angry parents shared their ire on Facebook when their children came home disappointed.

Lisa Simek posted: "She told them reindeer can’t fly and elves are not real – elf on the shelf is just a pretend doll that your parents move around.

"She did not even stop there: the tooth fairy is not real because mum or dad just sneak into your room in the middle of the night and put money under your pillow, same goes for the Easter bunny.

"She told them magic does not exist. There is no such thing as magic anything."

The mum said the teacher, who has not been named, tried to "crush" the spirits of her daughter Emilia and the 22 other kids in the group.

"She ruined their Christmas," wrote another Facebook user.

Principal Michael Raj sent a letter to parents explaining that he had "immediately" spoken to the teacher in question about her "poor judgement".

He wrote: "I am sending this letter so that you are aware of the situation and if the conversation comes up at home over the next few days you can take appropriate steps to maintain the childhood innocence of the holiday season."

School district officials have refused to comment on whether the teacher in question will continue to be offered work there.
