Oregon: Several people dead after shots fired in ‘hostage situation’
Several people have died in a “hostage situation” in Oregon, police have said.
Officers were called to a home in Salem at around 12.30pm on Monday to reports of hostages being taken.
A trained police negotiator made a call to the home, but shots were fired as the incident unfolded.
Several people – including the suspect – died, according to Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
No officers were hurt and there is not believed to be any danger to the wider community, the sheriff’s office said.
It is not yet known how many people were killed or what led to the deaths.
An investigation has been launched with Oregon State Police at the scene.
