A project almost six years in the making is about to open to outdoor winter enthusiasts in Saskatoon.
The soft opening of Optimist Hill at Diefenbaker Park takes place on Feb. 10.

Bradley Sylvester, president of OSP Community Development Corp., said the opening will take place in stages, starting with the ski and boarding hill section, the terrain park, and tubing lanes.
Sylvester said not all parts of the park will be open this season.
“Unfortunately, the free toboggan hill area remains a construction zone and is unsafe to use at this time, so it will not open this season,” he said.
The park will be open weekdays from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m., and from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
It will be closed on days when temperatures are below -25 with the wind chill.
The official opening celebrations start at noon on Sunday, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 1 p.m.
