No charges in death of senior at Dartmouth continuing care facility, suspect not criminally culpable

Charges will not be laid in the death of a 94-year-old woman who died after an altercation with a fellow continuing care facility resident in Dartmouth last year.

Halifax Regional Police say they have concluded their investigation and made the decision with the Public Prosecution Service not to pursue charges because the 81-year-old suspect would not be criminally culpable due to her cognitive impairment.

Police were initially called to Parkland At The Lakes on Baker Drive on July 16, 2018, in relation to an assault.

The victim died on Aug. 4, 2018, following complications from an injury that was sustained during that assault.

Police say the file has been closed.
