Mum who injected faeces into cancer-stricken son’s IV bag is jailed for 7 years
A mum has been jailed for seven years after being found guilty of injecting faeces into her cancer-stricken son's IV bag which left him severely ill.
Tiffany Alberts, 41, of Wolcott, Indiana, USA, was convicted of one count of neglect and six counts of aggravated battery.
A police affidavit revealed how in 2016 Alberts intentionally contaminated her 15-year-old son by injecting the faeces into her son's bag using a syringe.
The boy, who has not been named, suffered from sepsis due to the contamination which put his life at risk.
Her son had been receiving treatment for leukemia since early August 2016 at at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
The gravely-ill youngster was released but returned to the hospital in early September 2016, with a fever, vomiting and diarrhea, according to Marion County police.
Staff became suspicious when blood tests showed that organisms normally found in feaces were present in his system.
They then began monitoring the boy's condition closely and set up video surveillance which eventually caught the mother injecting the bag.
Authorities said Alberts initially told investigators that she was injecting water to "flush it as the medicine that was given to him burned", reports CNN .
But she later admitted to injecting her son's own fecal matter which she kept in a gift bag on the bathroom sink of his room.
Alberts is set to serve five years of probation following her prison sentence, spokesman from Marion County Prosecutor's Office said.
She was found not guilty of an attempted murder charge.
