Mother and father 'let their three year-old die in hot car'

Two parents were arrested after their toddler was found dead in a hot car.

Brandi Burks, 22, and Dakota Fowler, 20, were charged with manslaughter following the death of their three-year-old child in Russellville, Alabama, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were reportedly called at about 4pm on Sunday after the child was found unresponsive in the car.

However, medics that arrived on the scene were unable to revive the toddler, whose identity has not been released to the public.

Authorities said that the couple told them they last saw the child around midnight on Saturday when then put the child to bed.

The parents told investigators that they could not find the child when they woke up Sunday afternoon and later found the child unresponsive in the car.

Following the child’s death, police said the do not believe that the child’s death was intentional.

‘I don’t feel there was any intent there,’ Sheriff Shannon Oliver told AL.com.

‘I think it was neglect, which sadly cost the little guy’s life.’

‘It’s just a sad situation all around. These types of cases are really hard for everybody,’ Oliver added.

The toddler’s body was sent to the Department of Forensics for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, although the investigation is still ongoing.

Court records do not list a defense lawyer for either Burks or Fowler.

It is unclear when they are due back in court.
