Moment Uber driver pleads for her life before being killed
A mother of four who drove for Uber pleaded for her life before she was killed during an armed robbery, devastating footage captured by her dashcam shows.
Calvin Crew, 22, is charged with criminal homicide, robbery and tampering with evidence in the death of Christina Spicuzza, who was his Uber driver before he allegedly killed her, Allegheny County criminal court records show.
The dashcam inside Spicuzza’s car captured Crew allegedly pointing a gun at her neck as she drove. The 38-year-old woman pleaded for her life, telling him: ‘I’m begging you, I have four kids,’ according to a criminal complaint obtained by WPIX.
Investigators used cellphones, license plate readers and traffic cameras to track the movements of Spicuzza, who had been last heard from while driving for Uber.
In the dashcam footage, Crew can be seen putting a gun to Spicuzza’s head and telling her to drive. She then told him she has a family, but the he kept the gun against her neck, according to the complaint.
Crew allegedly used his girlfriend’s phone on February 10 to order the Uber. Spicuzza died from a single gunshot wound, according to detectives who said the gun belonged to Crew’s girlfriend.
Immediately following Spicuzza’s death, Crew tried to access her banking apps to transfer her money to his girlfriend’s phone, according to the complaint.
An Amazon driver spotted Spicuzza’s body Saturday in a wooded area roughly 40 feet from a road in suburban Pittsburgh, Monroeville Police Chief Doug Cole said. Her Nissan Sentra was found 2 miles away in Pitcairn.
Allegheny County Assistant Police Superintendent Victor Joseph told reporters that Crew allegedly shut off the dashcam and threw it out of Spicuzza’s car. It was later found near where the Uber trip ended by detectives.
Investigators had amassed a ‘vast amount of evidence’ prior to finding the camera, but locating the device was ‘critical’ to the case, Joseph said.
It’s unclear whether any charges will be filed against Crew’s girlfriend, but police said they are consulting with the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office.
Crew was taken into custody Thursday and denied bond during an initial court appearance. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
