A cat has miraculously survived jumping from the fifth floor of a burning building in Chicago.

The feline was filmed flying through the air to escape an apartment fire by the Chicago Fire Department, earlier this week.

Firefighters were capturing video footage of their efforts to extinguish a blaze in the city, when a black cat appeared through the smoke at a smashed window. With little hesitation the cat leaped out of the window and landed on all four paws.

The impact of he fall led to the cat bouncing on the ground on impact, as onlookers gasped at the pet’s bravery.

‘It went under my car and hid until she felt better after a couple of minutes and came out and tried to scale the wall to get back in’, said fire department spokesman, Larry Langford.

The cat was not injured, Langford said, adding that the fire department is trying to track down its owner.

No one was injured in the blaze either, which was confined to one apartment. The cause of the fire hasn’t been reported by officials, nor how much damage was caused.
