Mom 'wouldn't hold fat-ass child and had son on Biblical vegan diet until death'

The mother of a 7-month-old boy who is suspected to have died of malnutrition admitted that she did not want to ‘carry a fat-ass child’ and that she kept him on a ‘Biblical’ vegan diet. Carla Garriques, 28, held up and slapped the Bible while explaining how she fed Kameri Garriques, who was found dead.

‘Vegan means that everything that’s in this Bible’, Carla told the New York Post on Wednesday in her home in the Queens neighborhood. ‘I’m very wise. I’m very smart and I read my Bible’.

When Carla’s mother Corane said, ‘I have to be honest with you, he was small’, she interrupted and insisted that Kameri was not underweight.

‘At the end of the day, he was vegan,” Carla said, and then commented on her own weight.

‘I’m a small person. I’m 100 pounds’, Carla said. ‘I’m not a fat-ass woman where I’m going to carry a fat-ass child’.

New York police officers who responded to a 911 call on October 30 found Kameri unconscious and unresponsive at a home off of Liberty Avenue. On Wednesday, a medical examiner ruled Kameri’s death a homicide and that malnourishment was suspected.

Carla is a person of interest, but authorities have not charged anyone in connection with Kameri’s death.

Kameri’s mother said he ‘was fed vegan because all the formulas —  I tried six different formulas, he was catching thrush every time’.

‘He was not fed with bullshit’, Carla said. ‘He was not fed with formula where it has chemicals in it’.

Corane said Carla also fed Kameri ‘fruits and vegetables’ that were crushed with boiled potatoes.

Carla’s three other children, including a 2-year-old daughter, were taken from her by authorities after Kameri’s death.

The New York Police Department continues investigating the case, along with the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS).

‘Our top priority is protecting the safety and wellbeing of all children in New York City’, an ACS representative told the Post. ‘We are investigating this case with the NYPD and we have taken action to secure the safety of the other child in this home’.
