Meghan Markle’s nervous brother appears in court on drink-driving charge
Meghan Markle ‘s brother looked nervous as he appeared in court on a drink-driving charge.
The Duchess of Sussex’s half-sibling wore a dark jacket and checked shirt as he exchanged words with the judge in Oregon, USA.
He was pictured with his hands in his pockets during the brief administrative hearing.
Mr Markle, who shares a dad with the royal, previously told the Mirror how his arrest came after a blazing row with his fiancee over a bar fruit machine in January.
Police say the 52-year-old’s blood-alcohol level was 0.11% against a limit of 0.8%.
But Markle insists he failed a roadside test because of medicines he is taking for pain in his leg.
He claimed the row with Darlene Blount, 38, flared up after she refused to leave a bar they were in and go home.
Markle said: "We were in a bar and Darlene refused to stop playing the slots. I wanted to go home as it was late but she didn’t.
“When we finally got in the car, she was furious and the row just continued from there.
“When we got home all hell broke loose. I didn’t want things to escalate so I packed up my things, put them in my truck and left.
"It was why I was on the road so late. When the police pulled me over I said I was in agonising pain with my leg.
"The officer demonstrated how he wanted me to walk in a straight line. I told them there was no way I could. He then arrested me.”
The defendand said he was using over-the-counter painkillers and flu remedies as he cannot afford health insurance to use a doctor.
The incident was the latest in a string of embarrassments the Markles have caused the Royal Family.
Her dad Thomas Sr has given a string of critical interviews accusing his daughter of "shunning and ghosting" him.
And her sister Samantha frequently takes to Twitter to criticise the Duchess.
She recently called her a "narcissist" who was responsible for "bulls**t stories" and was suffering from "lie-abetes".
After his drink-driving arrest, Meghan’s brother apologised: "I am genuinely sorry for the shame this has brought on my family and I hope they, as well as Meghan, can forgive me.”
