Man whose wife shot his mistress in murder-suicide says ‘he still loves her’

A man has revealed how he still loves his wife – even after she shot dead his mistress before turning the gun on herself in a shocking murder-suicide.

Jennair Gerardot, 48, became enraged when she discovered her husband of 20 years was having an affair with a younger woman, 33-year-old Meredith Chapman.

In April 2018, both were found dead in the younger woman's home in Radnor, Pennsylvania, USA, after Jennair carried out the brutal slaying .

Mark Gerardot – Jennair's husband – recalled in an interview the lead-up to the affair which resulted in his wife and lover's deaths.

“My regret comes back to breaking her heart and making her feel like she had no other choice,” he said.

"I wish I wouldn’t have hurt her because I loved her. I still love her. I wish I could take it back."

The university employee revealed how their marriage had begun to break down in 2017 after Jennair lost her job and both moved to Delaware for a fresh start.

Mark soon struck up a friendship with Meredith in his new workplace, despite her also being married to local councilman, Luke Chapman.

It did not take long before they were involved in a passionate affair.

Mark's wife became increasingly suspicious he was cheating on her, which he finally admitted to after a confrontation.

Their marriage had soon completely broken down and Mark filed for divorce which Jennair had initially "taken well".

But Mark soon began receiving unsettling texts from his estranged wife, including one which said how she hoped he "would never be happy again."

During the evening of the killing, Jennair travelled from the neighbouring state of Delaware to Mrs Chapman's home disguised in a wig.

She broke into the woman's home, and tidied up glass so that it wouldn't raise suspicion.

When Mrs Chapman arrived home there was a confrontation and gunshots were heard.

Neighbours called police and when they arrived they first found Mark Gerardot outside the property.

Detectives found Mrs Chapman dead from a gunshot wound and Mrs Gerardot's body nearby, having apparently turned the gun on herself.
