Man tried to slither through US border with 52 reptiles stuffed in his clothes
A slippery customer was caught with dozens of reptiles in his pants and jacket as he tried to travel abroad.
The truck driver attempted to cross the US border into Mexico at San Ysidro in San Diego, California, when he was pulled over.
US Customs and Border Protection said they wanted to carry out an additional inspection on the driver and the vehicle on February 25.
But instead they discovered a scaly surprise.
Some 52 live reptiles were tied up in small bags ‘which were concealed in the man’s jacket, pants pockets, and groin area’.
This included nine snakes and 43 horned lizards. Sounds… very comfortable.
Some of the species found in the man’s clothes were even endangered.
The reptiles were seized and taken to hopefully more suitable and enjoyable surroundings than the driver’s pants.
The man, who is 30 and from the US, was arrested.
‘Smugglers will try every possible way to try and get their product, or in this case live reptiles, across the border,’ said Sidney Aki, Customs and Border Protection director of field operations in San Diego.
‘On this occasion, the smuggler attempted to deceive CBP officers in order to bring these animals into the US, without taking care for the health and safety of the animals.’
