Man, 25, 'massacred five kids and other man he lived with'

A 25 year-old man shot five children and a grown man he lived with dead, and also injured a woman living there, police say. Jarron Deajon Pidgeon opened fire at a house in Muskogee, Oklahoma, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Four of the children and the man died at the scene, with a fifth child succumbing to their injuries while being rushed to hospital. All of the children killed were elementary-school age or younger, Tulsa World reported, although their ages have not been released.

The woman who was injured being treated in hospital, where she is said to be conscious and talking. Investigators have yet to elaborate further on the relationship between Pidegon and the people he is accused of murdering, the relationship between the victims, or provide a possible motive for the massacre.

One neighbor claimed the family had only moved into their new home last week.

Police called out to the shooting spotted Pidgeon with a gun, it is said. He is accused of trying to run away on foot, but was arrested shortly afterwards. A Muskogee Public Schools spokesman paid tribute to three of the youngsters killed, who attended Creek Elementary School.

School district Superintendent Dr Jarod Mendenhall told Fox23: ‘We are saddened by this tragic loss and our deepest sympathies go out to all of those impacted.

‘No words can adequately express our sadness in losing these students and our thoughts and prayers are with this family.’
