Lock-down ends at one of two Quebec schools targeted by online threats
A lock-down at Heritage Regional High School in Saint-Hubert, in Montreal’s south shore, has ended.
Longueuil police were onsite investigating online threats directed at the school. They say the 1,600 students and 200 staff are safe.
Officers ask that parents not show up to the school. Parents who are concerned about their children can call the Info-Parents line at 450-463-7191.
Police confirmed that an arrest has been made in connection to the lock-down at Heritage Regional. They say the person was not arrested at the school.
About 350 students remain under lock-down at Quebec High School, an English language school in Quebec City.
Around 10 a.m. Friday, Quebec City police were made aware of an online threat involving the school.
The force’s spokesperson, Melanie Jobin, said the students are going to their classes according to their schedules, but doors are locked and they’re not allowed to leave.
“We have our investigators onsite to determine the circumstances surrounding the threat and to find out who made them,” she said.
“We’re taking no chances. They are all safe. There is no reason to believe that anyone has been hurt.”
The school says it has notified parents of the situation, and has advised them not to come pick up their children.
Isabelle Tremblay, mother of two students at the school, told Global News she tried to pick up her children, but says she was not able to.
“I’m waiting for them to come out and then I’m taking them home,” she said.
“You always think the worst in these situations, you just want them to come home.”
Jobin insisted everything is “under control,” but she would not confirm the nature the threat or if it was directed at a particular person or people.
No arrests have been made in connection with the Quebec City lock-down and the investigation is ongoing.
