Little girl ‘aged 8 to 10’ shot dead inside car outside shop

A little girl has been shot dead inside a car in Texas, US, police say.

The youngster, aged around eight to 10, was leaving a shop in the vehicle with her mum today when a man suddenly opened fire.

She tragically died, while the mother was shot in the arm and a younger child who was also in the car suffered glass fragment injuries.

Two teenage girls inside the vehicle escaped unharmed.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the suspect – or possibly, suspects – may have fled in a red truck after the Wallisville shooting.

He tweeted: "Mother & daughter were in a car leaving a store when an unknown male began shooting into their car for an unknown reason.

‘It’s unknown if he was on foot or in vehicle.

"He was wearing a red hoodie."

He later posted: "Update on Wallisville: 5 females were in the car; 2 teenagers unharmed, 8-10 year old female had died, mother shot in arm, and younger child has glass fragment injuries.

"Suspect(s) has fled."

The sheriff had earlier noted that the scene at 15491 Wallisville at Beltway was "still active" so information was "preliminary".

Deputies are investigating the fatal shooting in northeast Harris County.

Anyone with any information has been asked to call 911 or CrimeStopHOU at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
