Killer dad’s bizarre prison ‘confession’ over why he murdered wife and kids

Killer dad Chris Watts has claimed an 'evil spirit took over him' and physically made him strangle his wife and two daughters to death.

The 34-year-old, who says he has since 'found God', reportedly made the bizarre prison confession to two women who have been visiting him at Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, Wisconsin.

Watts is serving a life sentence for killing Shanann, 34, and daughters Bella, four, and Celeste, three, in August 2018.

Shanann was 15 weeks pregnant with a baby boy, who they were going to name Nico.

At the time, Judge Marcelo Kopcow called the murders "the most inhumane and vicious crime that I have handled out of the thousands of cases that I have seen."

Now almost a year on from the brutal slayings, which shook the world, Watts has said he wishes he could "make up" for what he did.

His mother Cindy Watts has also spoken out in a rare interview and shared a letter he sent her in which he says he has 'found God'.

“I’m still a Dad! I’m still a son! No matter what," he writes.

“Now, I can add servant of God to that mix! He has shown me peace. Peace, love, and forgiveness, and that’s how I live every day.”

The love rat, who was having an affair with colleague Nichol Kessinger, also claims if it wasn't for his mistress 'having a hold over him' he might not have committed the murders.

Photos of the pair hidden inside a secret calculator app in Watts' phone were obtained by police. They included some of Kessinger posing suggestively in a bikini.

In a voicemail left several weeks before the crimes, she is heard giggling and said: "Hi, it's me. I miss your face. Call me when you can, I guess."

Kessinger has said she had no idea of Watts' murderous plan and has since moved home and changed jobs to escape her association with him

These chilling new details and interviews are part of a new eight-part docu-series by HLN called Lies, Crimes & Video.

Two women – described only as “friends” of Watts – have shed light on their conversations with him.

They claim he told them he was possessed by an “evil spirit” when he killed his family and is now “truly remorseful” for what he did.

One of the women, given the pseudonym Anna, said: “Chris has said that he feels like there was an evil spirit that took over him, that he felt like somebody was physically taking his hand and making him strangle his wife and children.

"When Chris talks to me about Shanann, he talks about how great she was and how much he loved her.

"Chris feels like he had a break in reality like he snapped, like he was demon-possessed."

She told producers that she visits Watts behind bars every two to three weeks.

Another friend, referred to only as Kate, claims to speak to the killer "about once a week".

“He’s truly sorry, he’s truly remorseful,” she said.

Watts buried his wife in a shallow grave and stuffed his dead daughters in oil tanks where he worked, officials previously said.

Their bodies were discovered days after the trio were reported missing from their home in Frederick, Colorado.

After the trio 'vanished', Watts made a tearful TV plea to find them.

Days later, on August 15, he was arrested but denied he had killed them.

But things then took a sinister turn and he repeatedly changed his story to police.

He claimed that his wife had strangled their daughters in revenge after he revealed he was having an affair and wanted to split.

He allegedly told detectives that he flew into a rage and strangled Shanann after catching her in the act on a baby monitor screen.

But police rejected his web of lies.

The young girls' bodies were found on the property of Anadarko Petroleum, one of Colorado's largest oil and gas drillers.

Shanann's body was found in a shallow grave nearby.

The mum was initially reported missing after returning home from a business trip to Arizona at around 1am.

Watts had spent the weekend at home with their children.

He said he last saw his wife at 5.15am before he left for work.

Speaking on NBC's Today show , Watts said he and Shanann had had an "emotional" conversation that morning and had stayed up talking but didn't give any further details.

He said: "I don't feel like this is even real right now. It's like a nightmare I can't wake up from."

He said he text her numerous times but didn't receive any response which he thought was odd.

At around midday, he checked their doorbell camera and saw that a friend had stopped by but no one opened the door.
