Joe Biden tears into 'disgusting' Donald Trump 'calling US war dead losers'

Joe Biden has branded Donald Trump ‘disgusting’ over claims the president branded US soldiers killed in battle ‘losers’ and ‘suckers.’ Speaking Friday, Biden lost his temper and shouted: ‘If what is written in The Atlantic is true it is disgusting and it affirms what most of us believe to be true, that Donald Trump is not fit to do the job of president and be commander in chief

‘The president reportedly said that those that sign up to serve instead of doing something more lucrative are “suckers.” When my son volunteered and joined the US military as an attorney and went to Iraq for a year he wasn’t a sucker. The servicemen and women he served with, particularly those that did he not come home, were not losers.

‘If these statements are true, the president humanly apologize, to every Gold Star mother and father, and every Blue Star family’s he’s denigrated. Who the heck does he think he is?

Biden, the Democratic presidential nominee, was referring to a story published in The Atlantic Friday that claimed Trump refused to visit a cemetery close to Paris where 1,800 US soldiers killed in World War One were interred during a November 2018 trip to France.

Trump is said to have branded the war dead there ‘losers’ and moaned that rainy conditions would have affected his famous bouffant hairstyle.

He issued a furious denial in the wake of Friday’s story, and insisted he is a friend to the US military. But Biden also cited President Trump’s on-the-record dismissal of the late US Senator John McCain as a ‘loser’ after McCain was captured during the Vietnam war, and held as a prisoner of war for five years.

Trump dodged the Vietnam War draft by getting a doctors’ note saying he had bone spurs on his feet that stopped him from fighting.

Biden went on to condemn Trump for ‘mishandling’ the coronavirus crisis, and said frontline workers now faced greater danger just by going to work than any time since World War Two. He also warned the US faces a painful ‘K-shaped’ economic recovery’ after many states witnessed an unexpected surge in cases throughout June and July.
